Elected Officer Positions
These volunteer positions are selected by the Nominating Committee and elected by PTSA members each year. If you're interested in being part of our leadership team contact us.
President
Estimated time commitment: approximately 1-2 hours/week; the busiest period being back-to-school (August/September), and year-end (May).
Coordinate the activities of all PTSA officers and committees
Conduct the administration of the Highland Middle School PTSA in accordance with the standing rules
Preside all Highland PTSA meetings
Organize and prepare agendas for Executive Board and General PTSA meetings (with input from the Principal and Board Members)
Represent the Highland Middle School PTSA in interactions with Bellevue School District, school administration, staff, and community members
Attend or appoint someone to attend monthly Bellevue PTSA Council meetings
Be responsible for overall Highland Middle School PTSA finances
Approve, and assure that all communications are approved by the Principal, Highland Middle School PTSA channels prior to distribution •
Have all contracts or legally binding documents approved by the Tyee Middle School PTSA before signing •
Serve as ex officio member on all committees except Nominating Committee
Spokesperson at various school functions and special events
Executive Vice President
Estimated Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week (busiest times being back-to-school and end of the year).
Works as the primary aide to the president
Works closely with the president to help run a PTSA
Performs the president’s duties in his or her absence
Carries out other duties outlined in standing rules or as assigned
Attends PTA and the Law training offered for free by WA State PTA.
Attends meetings as requested by the president including council, district, and state PTA meetings
Presents a report to the board for any meeting attended on behalf of the president
Informs the board of new and updated PTA materials, information, and resources
Helps facilitate a smooth transition between incoming and outgoing officers and committee chairpersons.
Secretary
Estimated time commitment: 2 hours/month.
Attend all PTSA meetings
Take attendance and minutes at all PTSA meetings
Email draft minutes for review to board members
Present minutes at meetings for approval
Maintain a binder of all approved minutes, attendance, and current membership roster.
Attends PTA and the Law training offered for free by WA State PTA.
Treasurer
Time commitment: 3-4 hours/month
Attends PTA and the Law training offered for free by WA State PTA.
Maintains permanent records to track PTSA funds and financial transactions
Chairs budget committee and prepares the annual budget for adoption by the association
Pays all PTSA bills as authorized by the board or association
Prepares written summary of financial reports at every PTSA meeting and an annual financial report
Ensures taxes and reports required by PTA bylaws, insurance, or federal and state governments are completed and submitted by the due dates.
Renews PTSA insurance after discussion coverage at a board meeting
Files Corporate Annual Report
Assists the Financial Review Committee

✴ Communications Committee - Manages and creates content for the newsletter, website, and Facebook.
✴ Family and Community Engagement Committee (FACE) - Strong schools’ strength comes from engaged families. The FACE Committee focuses on building important relationships between parents, schools, and the community in order to better serve families.
✴ Membership Committee - Educates community about the value of PTA membership, plans membership drives, incentives, and updates membership database.
✴ Reflections Committee - Plans and promotes student participation in the National PTA Reflections Art Program.
✴ Staff Appreciation Committee - Plans and coordinates monthly staff appreciation initiatives and Staff Appreciation Week (May)
